FMCS: Inkfetish yo! How’s things man?

Inkfetish: At this current point in time I’m suffering from indigestion. I need to chew more.

FMCS: Tell the boys and girls what you do,,, c’mon don’t be shy!

Inkfetish: I’m an artist, specializing in illustrative work, traditionally, on canvas and walls. Some might classify me as part of the graffiti scene, other’s may know me better for my comic work.

FMCS: Monorex from Secret Wars hooked us up! That’s a great endeavor…did you enter this time? How did you fair?

Inkfetish: I got knocked out in the first round! He was a worthy opponent and there’s always this year’s competition- revenge is a dish best served cold.

FMCS: Your style is slick but seems time intensive! We reckon it takes a while to get your pieces painted…

Inkfetish: I’m notoriously a bit of a control freak…I don’t believe in perfection but to strive for it is important in my eyes. With painting walls you have a time limit…whether it’s the sun going down or your mates finishing first and bugging you to hurry the fuck up! With illustration, if it’s of a commercial nature you have the clients deadline to think about. Canvases are where I like to take my time…when I feel I can tweak stuff until I’m 100% happy.

FMCS: Where do you stand in your opinion on all female mud fights?

Inkfetish: I’m more into the female jelly wrestling subculture.

inkfetish5.jpg

FMCS: You recently published your first comic called ‘No Strings’ how did that manifest? Was it a lifelong ambition? And how did working in that particular format suit you? Did you learn a few things?

Inkfetish: I’ve drawn comics since I was a kid, well, sequential art to be more specific. I’m always interested in telling a story, even if it’s with a single image. With the comic I really wanted to push the boat out- create a fleshed out story featuring the eccentric characters that run around my brain.

The story acted as a prequel to ‘Pinocchio’ and was inspired by an image sent to me by illustrator and animator Oscar Grillo depicting the puppet being crucified with Jiminy Cricket stabbing him through the heart with a pitch fork! I’ve always been into dark fairy tale influenced imagery so thought I’d have a crack at it myself. The whole thing took me about a year to complete at which point I printed up 1000 copies. Carrharrt approached me and ended up buying half the stock with the rest selling independently through bookshops. It was a great learning process if not a bit daunting.

FMCS: Are you fully freelance or do you support yourself with other hustles?

Inkfetish: Right now, I’m hustling…in and out of part time work and concentrating on the art in the meantime.

inkfetish7.jpg

FMCS: Personal work or professional client based work…fess up! Which do you prefer and why?

Inkfetish: Personal of course! The only client based work I do involves illustration and occasionally custom canvases. The walls are painted for fun and not really meant to appeal to anyone but myself- it almost freaks me out when people tell me they’re into my aerosol work- I like to paint some weird shit!

FMCS: Favorite weapon?

Inkfetish: A giant fountain pen.

FMCS: Thanks for the short chat Inkfetish it was a pleasure to meet you and get acquainted! As is tradition we always let people do a few shout outs and plugs at the end of the interview so go crazy man…

Inkfetish: Everyone I know, artists and alike.

FMCS: Take care man… Catch you soon! Stay fresh!

Inkfetish: Cheers.
