FMCS: Hey Edwin how’s life with you?
Edwin: My right wrist hurts from drawing. Otherwise everything is just rainbows and unicorns.
FMCS: What’s new in your world right now?
Edwin: I’m working on a few film projects that I can’t speak of just yet. Oh, and I
am very excited to have my first solo exhibition in June 2007 at Nucleus
Gallery in Alhambra, CA. Read More
FMCS: Let people know a little bit about what you do?
Edwin: I translate a writer’s script into visual form.
FMCS: You fulfill a lot of shoes… Cinematographer, Production Designer, Visual Consultant, Art Director, Storyboard Artist, Concept Designer and Fashion Designer. Which shoe do you like walking around in the best?
Edwin: I love it when I get jobs that involve me dealing with all aspects of the project. Not to say that I don’t like collaboration, but sometimes I develop cool ideas that I want to see alive at the end of production.
FMCS: What’s Cali like right now? Inspiring? tiring?, retiring? Or just doing some re-wiring?
Edwin: The temperature is slowly dropping. I’ve already stored away my surfboard. I am looking forward to the warmth of Hawaii.
FMCS: Do you get back to Maui much?
Edwin: I’m going back in December for Christmas.
FMCS: Are you showing off around the town at the moment? (Exhibiting your work….not yourself)
Edwin: I tried once. Oh, you mean art. Yeh, I’m in a couple of huge group shows. One is with Project: Gallery for an ornament show. The other is at Nucleus Gallery entitled, “Imaginary Spaces” featuring art from the entertainment industry. Gallery resume
FMCS: You have worked for a lot of big name clients…any special moments?
Edwin: When I was working in the Art Department over at NBC, we were shooting a T.V. show called, “Boomtown” at 6AM in Chinatown. There was this ghetto bathroom scene where we used an actual location instead of a set. The bathroom was very pristine and needed to be aged and all tagged-up to get the sense this place was in a bad town.
So, the Art Director in charge of this set noticed that the crew was short-handed. He looked at me and said, do you want to add some graffiti? I said hell yeh! I raced in there and got to work. It was so awesome!
That day I found myself legally de-facing public property while being paid for
it. Read More
FMCS: What flips your switch?
Edwin: A lot of my art is inspired by everyday life, Obake stories, and whatever memories I can dig up.
FMCS: Any plans to move into Europe?
Edwin: Not at this moment. However, I may live in Singapore for 6 months as a guest lecturer.
FMCS: What you gonna have for tea?
Edwin: Brown rice tea every morning.
FMCS: Any Shout outs Edwin?
Edwin: To all my friends and family in Hawaii, California, NYC, Japan and worldwide.
Special thanks to Dr. Kathleen A. Poon who saved my life when I was born.
FMCS: How did you find FMCS?
Edwin: I’ve been tracking you guys for so long I don’t remember anymore.
FMCS: Thanks for the interview and till the next time!
Edwin: Thank you Johnny. It was an honor.
