Danny Glix
FMCS: Hi Danny tell us a little bit about yourself, your history and how you came to be where you are today!
I am a visual designer, specializing in brand strategy and aesthetic representation. I am happily self employed and have a number of private clientele. I have been creative director at two public telecoms and have partnered in, and started, several design agencies.
FMCS: Where are you currently living? And where are you working from?
I live and work in Manhattan, NY, and have office locations in the Tri-State-Area.
FMCS: Can you tell us a little bit about dannyglix.com? And how your company materialized?
My company specializes in making brands appear attractive, legitimate, and user friendly, we design all a companies digital materials including logo, print, web, and flash work. There are roughly 6 designers on staff and a few sales people. The company materialized out of me simply doing business. I plan to progressively work on branding my services now that I am overwhelmingly functional.
FMCS: How long has dannyglix.com been running now?
Just over one year. Before which, I was partner in a larger agency, but found it to not be concerned with advancing creatively. I had a similar experience working for large corporations, but I have since escaped and become a mercenary.

FMCS: What’s the ethos behind the company? How do you differ from others?
What really sets my company apart is good design, a colorful crew, happy to be doing their jobs, expressing themselves creatively and competently, detachment from ego in our work, and a winning attitude!
FMCS: What motivates you guys?
Existence. Enhancing our craftsmanship.
FMCS: What got you into design/illustration/print/web?
Since I was a very young kid in school, I would constantly be drawing comics and complex logos and interconnected shapes. At age 14 I was working fulltime coding HTML at a design agency. I quickly discovered my interest in interface/package design, fell in love with illustrator and Photoshop, and got advice from senior designers. I still fill up sketchbooks with logo thoughts and just enjoy the creating process
FMCS: We like the style of work that is displayed on dannyglix.com did this style develop through team efforts or an individual approach?
I like the FMCS interface a lot as well! I am the main front-end creative at my company and the imagery you see is all developed by me. I have a lot of experience with vector based logo creation, package artwork, interface designs, ect. My team aids me with the invisible work, php, asp. Xml, actionscript, ridiculously complex css, copywriting, project management and tons of other stuff.

FMCS: We are finding that there are many good designers out there doing great web work but they are really bad when it comes to optimizing there sites with the latest web standards and protocols for SEO, do you think this is an issue? And do you think it’s something designers should be taking more care of when publishing their work online?
There is a fine line between what is needed versus overkill. Often I see flash taking too long to load, or crappily integrated code. A good designer needs to be up on SEO standards so their work is proper, ready to be seamless for spiders. It is essential for a craftsman to be keenly aware of the issues surrounding the success of the ship they construct.
FMCS: What’s the design scene like where you are? Is there a good network for people based in the design industry there and do people work collectively?
As far as the design scene over here in NYC it is fantastic. There are numerous collectives, groups, and events for graphic designers. Many major design forums have a lot of members in the area which contributes to artist meet ups. I have met plenty of designers who I have worked with on projects, but when you say work collectively, it calls to mind the countless creative jam sessions and artistic projects which weren’t for work purposes.
