Daniel Meneses
FMCS: Hi Daniel tells us a little bit about yourself, your history and how you came to be who you are today!
Well, I am a web designer; I have been working on this since 1997.
I first started by programming web pages and 3 years later I discovered my personal like and talent for the graphic arts so now I am currently developing art and visual concepts for websites and other media, oh!
I also discovered that programming it’s not for me!
FMCS: How old are you?
27 years.
FMCS: Where are you currently living? And where are you working from?
I’m currently living in Tijuana, Mexico a very well known city by his graphical position, and working from here in a project that some friends a me started a year ago; it’s a design studio named Vector Media and what can I say, things are going well.
FMCS: Can you tell us a little bit about the starfuckers project? And how did you come up with the name?
I don’t remember why or how this project came out, I just remember that some friends and me made fun of a song by Nine Inch Nails called Starfuckers Inc., and one day I told them that it will be nice to upload a website with that name and put there things we like, so one week later we got Starfuckers online (Site currently unavailable). For me this project was like my design playground.
FMCS: What motivates you?
People, music, love, etc… Everything that can be used has an excuse to generate ideas and create.
FMCS: What got you into design/illustration/print?
The Starfuckers project; it was here where I found that I was better using photoshop than a programming language.
FMCS: We notice you mix rough graphics with clean graphics to create a rather individual style how did this materialize?
When I begin to create a new graphic piece I always let the things flow out of my head, the ideas, so I never know how it’s going to be at the end; most of the time I like to mix elements that came out from pictures with elements that I create to make some kind of combination of several design styles like vector, bitmap, grunge or even abstract, I like to experiment with all type of design styles.
FMCS: Also you feature a lot of feminine nudity in your work why?
Back in 2002 I remember those guys named Porn-grafics (www.xnografics.com) doing awesome graphic stuff using the sex theme (naked girls, sexuality, etc.); I really like the idea so I began to create a special night version for the Starfuckers using pictures of some nice good looking girls.
FMCS: What’s the design scene like in Tijuana, Mexico? And who should we keep our eyes open for?
Tijuana is a city with a constant cultural movement from contemporary art exhibitions, art installations, photography exhibitions to musical events and of course a growing design scene; some of these artist, designers and musicians have taken the problem of the border with the Unite States (illegal immigration, discrimination, etc.) As their main topic for their artistic or graphic expressions. I can mention some of the projects that have caught my attention and that it’s worth to look:
Red Pig Studio – www.redpigstudio.com
Jorge Tellaeche – www.tellaeche.com
Organika – www.organika.org
Yonke Art – www.yonkeart.org
Radioglobal – www.radioglobal.org

FMCS: Any advice for other people seeking to work in design or the creative arts?
On any personal or commercial project always 10% it’s inspiration and 90% it’s hard work always try to keep this in mind.
FMCS: How did you find out about feedmecoolshit.com?
A link in some design portal brought me here; funny name by the way.
FMCS: Any last comments?
Thank you Johnny for the interview and greetings from Tijuana, Mexico.
