AZZWOOPIN
The Scottish Duke graff artist and illustrator Azzwoopin hots things up in the FMCS offices.
We introduce our good buddy…

FMCS: Hey AW how’s things?
Azzwoopin: Not bad at all! Still plugin away at the industry. Things are starting to open up for me.
My Art Gallery is open in Leven, Fife and I’m breaking into different areas of art. I’ve got my little clothing thing happening called Inkfeenz, getting more interest in customizing trainers.
But over all things could be better as far as success.
FMCS: Tell the readers a little bit about yourself and where you at right now!
Azzwoopin: I’m a 23 year old male living in Fife, Scotland. I graduated from the University of Dundee in 2005 and I’ve been partying ever since!
Oh and working my ass off! I’m passionate about art, hip hop, food and many other things slightly underground and shouldn’t be repeated!
FMCS: we love your style man, what’s going on in your head? What are the main influences behind your work?
Azzwoopin: I produce work that I would want to see. I’m always searching for work that makes me think “That’s the tits”.
I like art which is edgy, sketchy and a bit grimy but I understand in order to make it in the illustration world you have to produce work that’s commercial.
So be prepared for some censored work from me in the future.
I love to illustrate for an Adult audience and enjoy creating characters and strange worlds which make people think or smile.
My art is influenced by artists like Ralph Steadman, Mr. Jago, Mode 2, Banksy, Dave Foldvari and the list goes on blah blah blah….anyway!
I really create art which I’m thinking about at that time. I don’t really get too political about shit!
Life’s complicated enough without me throwing shit out there!
FMCS: There are a lot of female forms in your work! What’s the reason for this?
Azzwoopin: I just have a great appreciation for the female form. Life drawing at college was what really got me into drawing women.
Early Tuesday mornings, scraping myself out of bed and asking why do I put myself through this bullshit and finally arriving into college after hopping on two buses.
Some beautiful naked women lying in front of me made it worth while, although the old farmer in his blue y’s that turned out to be a sex offender had the opposite effect!! I was really good at capturing the scene and emotion of the study.
Or maybe it’s just the dog in me… Ha ha!
FMCS: Is Buckfast conducive to producing high quality work?
Azzwoopin: Buckfast has a bad reputation in this country! But I love it!!
It’s conducive to producing high quality of violence if in the wrong hands!! It’s known as the drink for ‘NEDS’ (none, educated, delinquents), but that’s just the media that portray this fine tonic wine to be that way!
God bless the monks who made it! That’s what I say!
A monk once told me “Buckfast makes you fuck fast!” or maybe I dreamt that?
FMCS: Do you have any exhibitions lined up for 2007?
Azzwoopin: I might be taking part in the Glasgow Art Fair next year. Also, will be organizing something in my gallery for Spring time. To be honest, I tend to take each day as it comes so we’ll see what happens!
FMCS: Has all the recent exposure on the internet brought back some good things for you?
Azzwoopin: The internet is the future! I love the fact that people all over the world know my work! If it wasn’t for the web my work would only be known in my own country which is not enough!
I get a lot of good feedback by people all over who appreciate art.
FMCS: Do you have any plans to get your work on clothing?
Azzwoopin: I have Inkfeenz T-shirts and customized trainers! So look out for those! I would love to start my own label. My head is full of ideas for clothing!
So big shots with the know how, get at me! we could make a mint!
FMCS: Is there a good creative scene in Scotland for underground art and illustration/design?
Azzwoopin: Yes but I rarely see it! I went to uni with a lot of creative people, so I’m sure there’s a lot of things happening that I don’t know about.
The city’s are where it’s at. I lived in Dundee for a few years and Glasgow for a few months. These places were buzzing with atmosphere. The city life inspired me a lot!
I miss the hustle and tussle, the weird people who only come out at night, the smell, the party’s, the rough Glaswegians and all the things which inspire me living in the city.
FMCS: Thanks for the interview Arron. Any shout outs before we depart?
Azzwoopin: I’d like to shout out to my boy Klingatron… Look out for him! My girl Lisa, my lizard Daz, and the Buckfast Abbey Monks!
Cheers… Peace!
FMCS: All the best!
