SHAWN HEBRANK - Tattoo Art!

Shawn Hebrank has always been passionate about art, but a series of little steps led him to view tattooing as his primary medium of choice.

After a four trimesters at Savannah College of Art and Design before the funds ran out he began an apprenticeship with Albie Rock, and then started tattooing full time in 2005.

In the meanwhile he developed his illustrative style, exploring digital art, and having fun with anything he could get his hands on – watercolor, acrylics, spray paint, scraps of paper etc…

He then moved to Turnpike Tattoo and began to focus the bulk of his time on attracting an awesome clientele and building up his tattooing portfolio with custom, original pieces.

Shawn says “I like to start with a customer’s early concept, flesh it out with sketches, and bring it to completion with the tattooing process. It gives me lots of personal satisfaction to work so closely with the customer and help their ideas take shape. I’m always looking for ways to push my art and tattooing skills to new places, making every piece as dynamic as I can.”

Shawn’s work has a very organic and illustrative feel, with themes exploring life and death, the natural world vs. humanity, and anything beautiful with a hint of darkness or grotesque.

SAILOR JERRY YO HO HO…

If you really want a true classic, you’ll have to go back in time and cross the ocean (unless yon live in Honolulu).

sailor_jerry1.jpg

That’s where you’d find a guy with a white tee shirt, an oily grey pompadour and heavily tattooed arms, once known to seamen and still known to tattoo aficionados as “Sailor Jerry.”

sailor_jerry2.jpg

He’s the man many see as the father of the deftly crafted, boldly lined, balls-forward Old School Tattoo. The kind fuelled by the devil-may-care appetites of men far away from home.

But for now although Sailor Jerry died in 1973 you can now buy tees, jackets and more from this innovator…fuck Ed Hardy this is the real deal.
