“…what do mean ‘gonna be’?… I ‘am’ one of the faces! Quadrophenia

1967 it’s all swinging London, mini coopers, E type jags and micro skirts.

Since opening their first shop in Carnaby Street in that year Merc have survived many trends and fads and remain one of the familiar names in “mod” fashion.

There have been many revivals of mod style and from Madness in the 80´s to Oasis in the 90’s and even the skinny suits of the noughties band Franz Ferdinand give a nod to the 14 inch bottom and 7 inch side vented 3 button tailoring of the working class boys of the modscene…

The suit has been a must for neo mod styling and along with the fish tail parka and clarks desert boots has never really been out of our wardrobe even 40 years on…

I know its a ‘new’ cliche but….

Cliché new on the scene, well newish really! Wicked little skateboard company conceived by Jeremie Daclin back in 1997. (We say newish cause well….you know how old the whole skate scene is now). So being relative new comers on the whole skate front it’s great to see that these guys are introducing something special!

Hats off to them…They are pushing the boundaries and stereotypes of what in essence the ‘European skate scene’ is. Two long we have sat in the shadow of our State side kick and push crew (now corporate, Playstation pocket fillers).

But hey! This is not about creating divisions…sorry! Am thankful to Stateside other wise I wouldn’t have had access to good skate products all that while ago! This is all about creating a Euro Skater voice and instilling some pride in our home breed skate lads and lassies.

Great to see this!

G-R-U-E-L.

G star have based their whole brand catalogue on the success of just one early model… the “ELWOOD”.

there is a story that these jeans were influenced by the founder seeing motocross protective gear… But i remember Moshino doing a model just like the ELWOOD at least two years before Gstar.. so there.

That apart, G star were one of the first mid level brands to move away from the standard 5 pocket jean and their catalogue now boasts a plethora of jeans, jackets, hats, gloves… unfortunately its all available in that dull "raw" denim they champion so vociferously. In fact I have combined these shades and renamed this grey/blue colour as…“gruel”… (Tasteless, boring and thin).

And now the G-star boys have developed into one of the most bullying and bombastic of brands, dominating the trade shows with oversize “gruel” painted G-trade-stands gaurded by “gruel” clad fashion G-Nazi reps driving around in “gruel” coloured G-landrovers…

Fuck ‘em… Just like the Neo-Nazi Party to which they compare, G star jeans are the last refuge of those who cannot think for themselves, a bolt hole for the unimaginative…with a nice uniform

Please sir, can we NOT have some more.
