Michael Lau

Hong Kong based designer/artist Michael Lau’s main medium is 12” plastic figures.
They take on a variety of forms from skaters to surfers to rappers and gang members.
The figures are very detailed and the clothing is snappy and spot on when it comes to defining the ‘tribe’ a figure represents.

The Gardnergala series really made Michael a success not only in his native country but also worldwide, getting features in lots of magazines and publications. Also collaborating with fashion companies Maharishi and Bathing Ape have been a smart move.

If Warhol had Photoshop.

You know I’ve kind had enough of tee shirt companies raiding vintage advertising source books fiddling for five minutes on Photoshop to change that late 50`s “Mrs Puddings great Puddings” advert to “Wanky Tee brand puddings” printing it one colour on a Screen Stars tee shirt then charging 50 euros for it…Hell! Man I could do that myself and get it printed down the local walk in copy shop and print one that says “Tee-shirts are wasted on the young.”

Go instead to 2K tee-shirts (that’s 2k by gingham) and scroll down the huuuge collection of kewl tees on offer from Basquait to Warhol and from Barry McGee to Burro Destruct. 35 dollarish.

Removal mens tees-hirt pictured by Basquait.
